Eelam

There are some oud oils that are simply beautiful. And then there are those that feel like they carry a place within them. Eelam is one such oud.

Named Eelam, the ancient Tamil name for Ceylon the island we now know as Sri Lanka. Eelam is a rare expression of Sri Lankan Walla Patta, prepared in the traditional Indian style and given the one thing that cannot be hurried, time.

The oil was cooked patiently in the traditional manner, allowing the character of the wood to develop through heat, depth and transformation. Once distilled, it was not rushed to market. Instead, we carefully aged Eelam for close to five years, allowing the sharper edges to soften and the oil to settle into something considerably more refined.

The result is an oud with remarkable depth and maturity. Class and vigor. Intensity and finesse.

There is the unmistakable character of Sri Lankan Walla Patta as you take a deep whiff, that oceanic and powder walla patta signature, then followed by woody, warm and earthy tones, but years of ageing have brought a beautiful roundness to the oil. What begins with the richness of the wood gradually unfolds into deeper, darker and more polished facets, revealing layers that simply cannot be found in a young distillation.

Eelam is about the depth, and intensity of OUD.

It has the confidence of an aged oud: smooth, deep, naturally complex and wonderfully composed. Every application reveals another facet, with the scent speaking with loud and clear statements, rather than whispers.

For us, Eelam represents something particularly special: Sri Lankan wood, Indian tradition, and nearly five years of patience coming together in a single bottle.
