Some years ago, we released Ceen, one of our first Chinese oudh oils. It was an instant hit. Collectors still talk about it today. Many people call it the oudh they missed out on. We made Ceen using wild Hainan oudh. But for Ceen II, we chose something different. This time, we used oudh from Guangdong.
Back when we were working on Ceen, a local trader told us something that stayed with me. He said, “Guangdong oudh is very similar to Hainan.” He didn’t understand why we insisted on using Hainan wood only. That simple comment stayed at the back of my mind. Eventually, we decided to put it to the test.
A few years later, we used the same distillation method as Ceen, but this time with Guangdong wood. The hunters went deep into the old forests of Guangdong. They brought back wood that was rich, dark, and full of character. Moving it out of the region was difficult. So instead of taking a risk, we teamed up with a respected old uncle in China. He had years of experience distilling herbal oils for traditional medicine. He cooked the batch using our setup and exact instructions.
As a result, we created Ceen II. This oil is wild, rich, and incredibly complex. It’s not from Hainan, but it captures the same level of beauty. In fact, Ceen II stands on its own. I know many oils today are sold as Hainan oudh but actually come from Guangdong. Honestly, I don’t mind. Good oudh is good oudh. And when I smell Ceen II, I feel this region deserves far more recognition. It offers a sophisticated and deeply moving scent.
Ceen means China in Arabic. This oil reflects the depth and beauty of the Chinese landscape and culture. It was distilled using traditional Chinese techniques. The scent is clean and pure. You’ll notice pollen, honey, green wood, warm resin, and soft oudh tones. After aging for two years, the oil reveals floral fields, herbal roots, cinnamon wrapped in mint, and the sweet, earthy scent of Guangdong’s soil. It finishes with a soft blend of honey, camphor, and wood.

OUDH FACTS
When used in a perfume composition, Oud is most often a base note, which tends to remain on the skin long after the others dissipate. Since they form the perfume’s foundation, base notes are very rich, heavy and long-lasting (up to six hours and more). They serve to enhance the scent of other ingredients; and, in some cases, they impart a fragrance all their own. While most wood notes are known for their earthy qualities, Oud provides a pleasant sweet scent and is often featured in a synthetic version because it is so costly to harvest.
