WOW – What a delightful oil Halawa has become!
From the Arabic word meaning ‘Sweetness’ and some would even say ‘delightful’, Halawa is a wonderous Oil that was actually distilled from plantation agarwood – but this is no average plantation! Located in Central Mainland Malaysia this plantation has been working tirelessly with us to follow our stringent requirements making them even more rigorous than any conventional ‘Organic’ label. Having utilised pre-existing farmland to cultivate aquilaria malaccensis seedlings and then stepping back to let nature run its course for the next 10 years this plantation utilised physical bark opening to allow insects from the surrounding environment to get to work.
Right from how the plants are grown to how the workers are taken care of and even our method of distillation and curing and how the Oils are handled all the way to the end user, for lack of a better term we loosely name these oils ‘organic’ but in all honesty they are so much more. As we have said many times before Al Shareef is pioneering the way in the field of premium quality sustainable Oudh oils. Premium oils distilled from natural plantations with high quality ethics and processing standards in mind is the future and Al Shareef is proud to be at the forefront of this.
Whilst working with organic agarwood it is very important to have good quality craftsmen processing the wood and shaving every last bit of white wood off. People are often mistaken in that white wood does not have any oil but this is inaccurate; white wood does have oil but it doesn’t have Oudh oil. We ensure that only the wood that contains Oudh oil makes its way into the pot as we are keen on distilling the best Oudh and not just ‘pretty’ oils. Adding unto our record of fabulous Hindi and Indonesian organic oils, Halawa is a lustrous winner from Malaysia.
Distilled in the all-stainless steel Malaysian style pots and condensers this setup allowed the rapid cooling of steam to capture all facets of the oil without losing any aspects due to a delay in cooling. This is extremely important when you want to produce well-rounded dynamic Oils.
A delightful camphorous oil, debuting with a lemon grass top and a ginger green opening it flows into a magnificent ambergris-like salty note sprinkled with green walnuts and then a touch of  heady incense aroma breezes in from the highlands of Tibet accompanied by natural herbs of the surrounding rolling hills.

OUDH FACTS
When used in a perfume composition, Oud is most often a base note, which tends to remain on the skin long after the others dissipate. Since they form the perfume’s foundation, base notes are very rich, heavy and long-lasting (up to six hours and more). They serve to enhance the scent of other ingredients; and, in some cases, they impart a fragrance all their own. While most wood notes are known for their earthy qualities, Oud provides a pleasant sweet scent and is often featured in a synthetic version because it is so costly to harvest.
